We offer engaging learning sessions tailored for a wide range of children’s groups, including schools, youth organisations, and early years settings. These sessions draw on the rich history of Huntingdonshire, celebrate the nature in the museum’s courtyard garden, and explore local themes, such as the River Great Ouse, which flows right beside the museum.

Each session is designed to spark curiosity through hands-on learning, exploration, and discovery. Children often have the chance to interact with genuine artefacts from our museum’s diverse collection, making history come alive in a memorable and meaningful way.

Book Early
Due to high demand, we recommend booking at least two months/one term in advance (sessions that are in development and may require a little longer). Please note: some of our sessions are available during the summer months only.

To make sure you get the best out of your time with us, we request that…

– Groups with children aged 3-5 years have a ratio of at least 1 adult for every 6 children
– Groups with children aged 5-11 years have a ratio of at least 1 adult for every 8 children

For the majority of school visits, classes are divided into four groups. Please ensure there are enough adults in your party for each group to be accompanied by an adult at all times. Most sessions have elements that are self-led. Where visiting adults are asked to lead an activity, all necessary resources, information, and clear step-by-step instructions will be provided.

Although the community room is reserved for your visit, for sessions that run whilst the museum is open to the public, time in the gallery and our courtyard garden is shared with our general visitors. We ask visiting adults to be mindful of this while supervising children in these areas.

Teachers, group leaders, other staff, and volunteer adults visiting the museum are responsible for the behaviour and safety of the children in their care at all times. Children should at no point be left in the care of any member or members the museum team.

Our sessions are delivered by our members of our learning team, which includes our Learning Officer, Learning Assistant, and members of our dedicated Learning Volunteer Team.  They are differentiated by the outcome of each child and the level of adult support required.  We encourage school staff and other accompanying adults to join in with the activities, as appropriate.

If you, or a member of your group, have any particular needs please let us know in advance and we will do our best to support you.  The museum galleries and community room are all step-free and wheel-chair accessible, and we have an accessible unisex toilet.
