The Museum team are delighted to be able to offer local history talks to clubs and groups.

These can be either be hosted at The Norris Museum (up to 30 people), at your local club venue or online via ‘Zoom’.

Our current list of talks available are:

• Silver pennies, striking coins… and the Huntingdonshire Mint – from treasury into peasants’ rough hands at markets, fairs and taverns
• Windows into a Tribal World: Iron Age Coins – the origins of iron age coins, told through the tribes and their colourful leaders – coin production, design, imagery and distribution across Cambridgeshire and Huntingdon district
• Bibles, Politics and Art – How the invention of printing and the turbulent changes from Henry VIII to Elizabeth I, were reflected in trade, politics and a profusion of different, often lethal (for the translator) bible versions
• 5,000 years of Inventions (abridged) – how three key inventions, Ceramics, Glass and Printing developed from the first Sumerian cylinder seal 3,600 years BC to unexpected applications in our home and smart devices
• Time – a history of how people perceive time and how it has changed over time to the current day.
• 12,000 years of (modern) humans in Britain, DNA, Domestication and Diseases – What science and archaeology can tell us about the changes in our heritage, pets and farm animals, and recurrent plagues that occurred since modern humans came to Britain 12,000 years ago.  
• Mammoths and Man in our Region – A journey of 3 million years involving 3 different species of mammoth and 3 species of humans against the backdrop of frozen ice ages and warm interglacials and our changing geography. 
• FULLY BOOKED – The Witches of Warboys – a retired police officer’s perspective on the trial and conviction of 3 innocent people?
• FULLY BOOKED – 150 Million Years of St Ives in 45 minutes – from the Jurassic period to modern day
• FULLY BOOKED – Railways of Huntingdonshire – an investigation into the number of railway stations in Huntingdonshire from 1846 to today
• FULLY BOOKED – Law, Order and Disaster– A potted history of how law and order has been maintained in the area for the last 1000 years
• FULLY BOOKED – Airfields of Huntingdonshire – an investigation into the number of airfields that sprang up between 1916 and 1945 and what remains today

Talks last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour with a chance for questions at the end of the session

Cost: £40 (plus 65p per mile travel costs if our speaker comes to you)

If you are coming to us and would like the museum to provide refreshments, these are charged per person.

(£2.00 per person for tea, coffee and biscuits, £3.50 for tea, coffee and cake/scones).
