Key Stage One
Sessions at key stage one are designed to support the topics and themes of the national curriculum. These topics are developed with museum objects allowing pupils to explore topics whilst having some fun too!

River Heroes
Delivered in June and July, in partnership with the St Ives Electric Riverboat Company. Become a champion of your local river, the Great Ouse! Explore the impact of littering by creating clay Ouse Monsters, uncover the fascinating lives of our elusive, endangered eels and enjoy a memorable river trip, spotting wildlife and discovering eel passes along the way.

Ousing History
Discover how the River Great Ouse has shaped local history through survival, travel, trade, and leisure, from the Stone Age to the present day. Handle artefacts from across the ages and explore how one period of history flows into the next. Each child receives a paper boat to name and fill different types of “cargo”, from timber to spices and other important goods once transported along the river.

Under the Jurassic Sea
Did you know that 160 million years ago Huntingdonshire was at the bottom on a warm Jurassic Sea? Discover some of the amazing Jurassic reptiles that would have lived here back then by exploring the amazing fossils they left behind. Dig for fossils, work out how fossils are formed and play fossil I-spy in the museum’s gallery.

Toys through Time
Meet Brian, a very old teddy bear, and Harry, a very new one. Compare how toys have changed over time and discover what children may have played with in the past. Explore historic toys and the different materials they were made from, from wood and metal to modern plastics, then create your own Victorian-inspired Kaleidoscope optical illusion toy to take home.

Bridging History: The Story of St Ives Town Walk
Explore St Ives’ famous Bridge Chapel, take turns to stand on the balcony, and find out about its fascinating history. Walk around town and visit some key locations in St Ives’ history. Discover the key role that the bridge has played in the history of St Ives.

You’ve heard about the great fire of London, but what about the Great Fire of St Ives? Track the path of the fire on a walk through town. How did it start? How did people try to put it out? Why did it spread so quickly?

Step back in time and discover how people shopped in St Ives hundreds of years ago. This guided town walk explores the town’s markets, shops and streets, revealing how shopping has changed from the medieval period to today.
