The Friends is a membership society formally known as “The Association of Friends of The Norris Library and Museum” (FTNM).
It is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, registration number: 270496

The Friends’ primary purpose is the education of the public by promoting, supporting, assisting and improving the Norris Library and Museum through its activities.
The FTHM constitution was first adopted in October 1975 and has been reviewed and revised at intervals since then. The latest version can be found below.
The constitution defines the governance of the association and identifies its elected officers who are the core of the Executive Council of Management (ECM) which runs the association in accordance with the constitution.
Elections to the ECM take place at each Annual General Meeting. The ECM has powers to co-opt additional members as necessary and appropriate to the association’s functions.
